Is anyone still taking prenatal vitamins while breastfeeding/pumping?

I am primarily pumping (and working hard and struggling with breastfeeding) and I was wondering if anyone else still took their prenatal vitamins. I wasn't given a solid answer about this, so I kept taking my prenatal vitamin after giving birth.

Thanks!

I'm breastfeeding and still taking vitamins (ones for 13+ weeks pregnant and breastfeeding) because the pediatricians in Germany advise you to take them so your LO gets iodine.

I still take mine. As long as I am breastfeeding!

level 1

Yep. Recommended by doc. They even gave me some in the hospital after the birth.

I've heard to continue them for a year after pregnancy to replenish your body's nutrient stores, so that's what I did while I nursed.

I'm still taking mine, my OB recommended that as long as I'm breastfeeding to keep taking my prenatals.

level 1

Yes, if breast milk is being given to baby it's recommended to continue your prenatal.

ETA: This was recommended by my OB.

Hi there, doula here

You can absolutely keep taking prenatal through your breastfeeding period, there are also postpartum vitamins that are tweaked a bit for breastfeeding needs and what your body changes are requiring post birth. They are very close to prenatals, so if you have left over prenatals definitely use them up and then talk to your doctor about a postpartum vitamin that might be more supportive for your breastfeeding and post-baby body.

Wishing you the best!

I plan on taking them in general after birth until my body gets back to normal.

Yes, my OB and the pediatrician both told me ro continue taking my prenatal while breastfeeding.

level 1

Yes! Was told by doctors to continue taking the standard prenatal vitamins while breastfeeding. They seem to be helping (i guess?), my production seems ok - im both pumping and breastfeeding. Breastfeeding 4-5/day and bottle with breastmilk 3/day. I pump roughly 5-6/day, making on avg 2ish oz each time.

I'm 13 months postpartum & I take the postnatal vitamins I got on Amazon called "Pink Stork Total Postnatal + DHA". My child is still breastfeeding & eating solids.

Dad here: I started taking them when my wife was pregnant, did wonders for my hair and beard, so I'm still taking them lol.

level 1

Yes, but I switched over to postnatals instead.

level 1

I'm taking mine! My OB and L&D nurse both said to for atleast a year after even if I stop breastfeeding to help my body replenish itself. Planning of Breastfeeding for atleast a year though.

My OB told me to keep taking my prenatals up until my baby is a year old.

What prenatal brands is everyone here on?

level 1

I switched to a woman's multivitamin after I ran out of prenatal vitamins, and I'm taking supplemental vitamin D and omega-3.

I was terrible about taking my prenatals so I still have a lot to finish. I feel like I've been better about taking them now that the baby is here than I was when I was pregnant. I do plan to continue on with Perelel's 4th trimester pack though after I finish my 3rd trimester pack.

All of my nurses in the hospital recommended that I still take my prenatal vitamin while I'm breast-feeding. It will help make sure that baby gets those extra nutrients that might not be in my diet. They said it's good for me and for baby so I've been taking mine still!

My doctors have always recommended to take prenatal vitamins up to 6 months post partum or as long as you are breastfeeding. My one female doctor says they are great to take anytime and that our bodies generally need all the stuff in them anyway.

Still taking mine 5 weeks post partum while pumping! Probably will keep taking them until I'm done having kids tbh!
